A Math Problem: Can Addition and Multiplication Get the Same Result?
Sherry Stepp, MCA President
First, let me say the Parts Cleaning Conference at IMTS was a huge success. The participation and the presentations were definitely top notch! As an association, we are working hard to build our technical resources as well as our membership.

When the MCA was formed, we had a vision to bring everyone that deals with cleaning together. Users and suppliers solving problems together to answer the elusive question “How Clean is Clean?”.
That brings me to our math problem. To be successful we need to ADD technical content, in-person events and continued education opportunities. At the same time, we need to MULTIPLY our membership. So, the circle begins, to add more members we need to supply value-added content and services, which will lead to more experts willing to share their expertise. To get more technical content, we need to add members willing to share their expertise. This type of supply and demand must happen simultaneously. But the mathematical result will be worth it!
As we approach the end of our second full year of existence, we need YOUR help!
Help Grow Membership. If there is anyone you can think of that would benefit from a membership of the MCA, reach out to them or let someone on the board know. We are happy to explain how everything works and expound on the benefits.
Get involved. Join a committee – We are always open to new ideas and many hands make the work easy. Committees available are: Technical, Educational, Membership & Events as well as MarCom.
Submit a technical resource. This can include a Case Study, Technical Paper or Informational Video (non-commercial, of course) for our website.
Start a conversation. Send an email to Contact Us, and we will make sure to connect you to the right people.
Growing pains happen in every organization, and if we apply a little math (addition and multiplication), there are no limits to what we can accomplish!

About Us:
Brighton Science offers a variety of consulting and technological troubleshooting tools to ensure improved performance throughout the production line, while designing a breakthrough product in R&D and identifying the root cause of cleaning issues. Brighton Science provides expertise and services to Solve, Prevent, and Control the variables and risks manufacturers face during cleaning processes. Over the last two-decades, our team of Surface Intelligence experts works to assist companies that have not yet invested in a critical cleaning line by providing a set of cleaning specification parameters that can be measured using Surface Analyst technologies. Brighton Science solutions also consist of optimizing and innovating existing cleaning processes by centering the solution around value engineering and how it can positively affect your cleaning process and establish process specifications.
Our Team:
Our team of solutions-focused employees consists of materials science Ph.D.-level consultants, manufacturing process engineers and creative critical thinkers who Solve, Prevent and Control critical cleaning challenges, improve value engineering and optimize cleaning processes.
Our Products/Services:
Brighton Science’s consulting solutions help a variety of suppliers, manufacturing engineers, and management teams by mitigating risk through surface cleanliness checks as well as locating cleaning, bonding and adhesion problems as they happen instead of when it is too late.

In addition to our consulting services, we design high-precision instruments that bring unprecedented visibility to cleaning processes and material surfaces of all kinds. We live at the interface of materials, where surface quality and integrity can make or break a product or a company. We are the global experts in surface intelligence: bringing insight to cleaning processes, innovative R&D efforts and mission-critical decisions for the most visionary and demanding manufacturers around the world.
Awards and Recognition:
– Brighton Science has been working alongside almost all areas of the federal government through the United States’ Small Business Innovated Research fund (SBIR) since the late 1990s.
– In the spring of 2021, Brighton Science was granted an ISO 9001:2015 certification for our commitment to maintaining rigorous quality standards to develop innovative and one-of-a-kind surface quality and inspection equipment for others who are bonding, coating, painting, printing and cleaning materials and surfaces.
Testimonials:
“Using the Surface Analyst as a production problem-solving tool – versus dyne pens, which are more crude – was probably the fastest ROI on any piece of equipment … in the last half decade.” – Ryan Chai, Former Director of Flexible Packaging at Kala, now part of Fortis Solutions Group
“We are one of the U.S. government’s experts in materials science,” states Giles Dillingham Ph.D., founder and chief scientist at Brighton Science. “We do academic-quality research within the confines of a small company. We’ve been able to do that, largely because of the way we’ve leveraged the SBIR program.”
Brighton Science is unique with its application of knowledge. The company boasts influential and game-changing technology like the Surface Analyst but edges out the competition by providing customers consulting expertise in the world of contact angle measurement and materials science.
