Letter from the President
Jeff Beard, MCA President
Hello. I am Jeff Beard the new president of the Manufacturing Cleaning Association. I have over 30 years in the precision parts cleaning industry and am humbled and honored to lead this organization. A special thank you to Sherry Stepp who turned over the gavel to me in December. Under Sherry’s leadership the MCA has made great strides. Can you believe we started a new organization in the middle of a pandemic and have weathered the storm? Sherry was the right leader at the right time.
You may ask “what do I get if I or my organization joins the MCA?” Quite simply, access to industry expertise. Access to hundreds of combined years of experience and expertise in the cleaning industry. As we grow the MCA community, the access to knowledge and expertise grows.
To my point of sharing expertise, please consider attending the inaugural MCA one-day event. “How Clean is Clean- Aerospace” will be held March 7 in Huntsville, AL. This is the first of 3 events planned for this year. In Huntsville, learn more about water generation and disposal, machining oils, cleaning of 3D printed parts, and cleanliness evaluation. The event is capped off with a solvent replacement roundtable discussion. More information on the event and how to attend can be found here.
Finally, have you heard 3M is exiting the fluoro chemical business by the end of 2025? This will cause customers using all types of precision cleaning applications to search for alternative technology. The MCA is a great place to start. Learn what questions to ask and gather starting point information. Ask for advice from a community that has completed an unknown number of process conversions in their work life.

News from the EPA
EPA Finds Trichloroethylene Poses an Unreasonable Risk to Human Health the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized a revision to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) risk determination for trichloroethylene (TCE), finding that TCE, as a whole chemical substance, presents an unreasonable risk of injury to human health when evaluated under its conditions of use. The next step in the process is to develop a risk management rulemaking to identify and require the implementation of measures to manage these risks. Read more HERE!
